Description

A delicious honey garlic chicken recipe that is easy to make and full of flavor!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup honey (can substitute with maple syrup for a vegan option)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (use low-sugar for a healthier version)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar, white vinegar can be used)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (use low-sodium to reduce saltiness)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (dark brown sugar offers a richer flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (can be reduced if desired)
  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce (adjust quantity for heat preference (14 tablespoons))
  • 1 large egg (may replace with a flax egg for vegetarian versions)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (gluten-free flour can be used as a substitute)
  • 1/4 cup corn starch (essential for dredging the chicken)
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast (can substitute with thighs or other proteins)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (can replace with other oils like grapeseed or avocado oil)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (mixed with cold water to create a slurry)
  • 2 tablespoons green onions (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together honey, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and chili garlic sauce until well blended. Set this delicious mixture aside.
  2. In three separate bowls, combine the large egg, all-purpose flour, and cornstarch. Dredge the chicken pieces first in the egg, then coat them with flour, and finally sprinkle with cornstarch for a light, crispy layer.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the coated chicken pieces and cook until they turn golden brown, which should take about 7 minutes, ensuring they’re cooked through.
  4. Lower the heat and pour the prepared sauce over the chicken. Stir gently to coat each piece evenly, allowing those flavors to meld beautifully.
  5. Create a slurry by mixing cornstarch with cold water. Stir this mixture into the skillet until the sauce thickens, which should take around 5 minutes.
  6. When ready, garnish your masterpiece with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired, before serving for that perfect finishing touch.

Notes

  • This dish can be served with rice or vegetables.
  • For a spicier kick, increase the amount of chili garlic sauce.
