Description

A delightful orange cardamom cake that is rich, fluffy, and perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • ⅓ cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • ¾ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two 8-inch cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cardamom, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla, orange juice, and zest.
  5. Add dry ingredients alternately with sour cream, mixing just until combined.
  6. Divide batter between pans and bake 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar, orange zest, and juice. Beat until fluffy.
  8. Assemble cake by layering frosting between layers and around the sides and top. Garnish if desired.
